The Perfect 5-Day Glacier National Park Adventure Itinerary
The Perfect 5-Day Glacier National Park Adventure Itinerary
What I'd Do if I Were Visiting Glacier This Summer
Planning a trip to Glacier National Park and wondering how to make the most of your time? If I were visiting for five days, here’s exactly how I’d explore this incredible place—balancing adventure, epic views, and a few hidden gems along the way. From iconic hikes to alpine floats and e-bike tours, here’s my ideal Glacier getaway:
Day 1: Hike to Avalanche Lake
Start your trip with a classic. Avalanche Lake is one of the most beloved hikes in the park, and for good reason. It’s a moderate 4.5-mile round-trip trail that winds through ancient cedar forests before opening up to a stunning alpine lake surrounded by towering peaks and waterfalls. Get there early—this spot is popular and parking can fill up quickly. Bring a picnic and soak in your first big “wow” moment of the trip.
Day 2: Ziplining at Whitefish Mountain Resort
For a change of pace (and a hit of adrenaline), head to Whitefish Mountain Resort just outside the park. The zipline tours here are no joke—long, fast, and high-flying. You’ll zip through forest canopies with jaw-dropping views of the Flathead Valley and surrounding peaks. It’s a fun way to switch things up and add a little thrill to your Glacier adventure.
Day 3: E-Bike Tour on Going-to-the-Sun Road
One of the most iconic roads in America, Going-to-the-Sun Road is even more magical when experienced by e-bike. Ride past roaring waterfalls, towering cliffs, and alpine meadows with ease. There’s nothing quite like pedaling through Logan Pass, especially in the early morning before the car traffic starts. Join an e-bike tour (like the ones we offer!) for a smooth, scenic ride without the stress of parking or shuttle schedules.
Day 4: Guided Hike + Alpine Lake Float with Glacier Hikes & Bikes
This is the day I’d slow things down a bit—but not too much. Book a guided hike and alpine float trip with Glacier Hikes & Bikes. You’ll explore a beautiful trail on foot, then hop into a raft and float across a serene alpine lake with unbeatable views. It’s the perfect mix of active and relaxing, and our guides know how to make the experience extra special.
Day 5: Visit Many Glacier + Hike to Grinnell Lake or Glacier
Wrap up your trip with a visit to the crown jewel of Glacier: the Many Glacier area. This part of the park is a favorite for a reason—massive peaks, turquoise lakes, and a good chance at spotting wildlife like bears or moose. Hike to Grinnell Lake (a more moderate option) or take on the longer trek to Grinnell Glacier if you’re feeling ambitious.
⚠️ Heads Up: Access to Many Glacier is extremely limited this summer due to road construction. If you want to visit, book your Many Glacier shuttle in advance. We’re lucky to have one of the few permits that allow tours into that area—so don’t miss your chance to see it!
Final Thoughts
Five days in Glacier isn’t nearly enough to see it all, but with the right mix of iconic stops and unique experiences, it’ll be a trip you never forget. Whether you're hiking, biking, floating, or ziplining, this place has a way of making every moment feel like magic.
